1.1. Introduction

Brief presentation of the subject

Fundamentals of Spanish literature is a compulsory subject that is taught in the first semester of the 2nd year of the Undergraduate Degree in Primary School Education. Apart from its intrinsic usefulness, which is demonstrated in other places in this guide, the subject serves as an initial basis or as support for the whole set of materials that (whether as a whole or in one of its thematic units) deal with the literary training of future primary teachers, as well as their place in the educational dimension.

2.1. Learning goals

In order to pass this subject, students must demonstrate the following outcomes…

1. Debate the concept of literature and explain the difficulties in its definition, as well as list and describe the various components of literature.

2. Recognise and categorise the creative resources of literature depending on their nature and function, with a special focus on Spanish and Hispanic texts.

3. Describe the most important features of the various genres and recognise the generic classification of Spanish and Hispanic literary texts.

4. Analyse the components of literary work and assess the appropriateness and meaningful relevance of literary resources in Spanish and Hispanic literary texts.  

5. Use the fundamental sources of knowledge and references in order to learn about literature and for the beginning of the scientific work into it.
